Here's this weeks Match Reports from our Junior Teams. Enjoy.

Heanor Town Wolfpack U7's vs. Belper United Green Sox U7's

Today was the day that the Wolfpack had been waiting for. Our very first game of the season!!

With a full squad and captained by Blake, we had an abundance of talent to put on display at Derby University.

From the kick-off, the boys attacked, and Teddy won the ball after making a strong tackle to get the first goal of the season. With brilliant teamwork, we were dominating the game. Brilliant dribbling and passing into the box set up Ted to finish from a Blake assist, then Ronan showcased his skills to get the ball back up the pitch and set Teddy up for his hattrick.

Belper didn’t let up and kept on coming at us, but with our super strong brick wall defence in Harry and Caleb, they struggled to get through. When they did, our courageous goalkeeper, Reuben, showed the heart of a lion and had no fear of closing down their attackers and making some spectacular saves to keep a clean sheet.

Subs were made, and the confidence of the boys was still sky-high, with Mason dominating the left-hand side of the pitch, leading to an assist a fourth goal by Teddy to finish the first half.

The second half started, and more subs were made. Tommy and Tijan applied the pressure from get-go with near misses and posts and crossbars rattled, but Tommy eventually found the net to extend the lead. This was shortly followed by some brilliant skills by Tijan to get in the box and add his name to the score sheet.

Ronan came back on for a short cameo appearance. He controlled the ball off his chest and scored a deserved goal. Moments before the final whistle, Tommy executed the dribble in rule perfectly, working his way into the box to bag his second goal to finish off the match.

Moorgreen Colts U8's vs. Heanor Town Avengers U8's

It was time to assemble for the newly formed Heanor Town Avengers. The team consists of Aiden, Miller, Tristan, Daniel, Alicia, Isaac, Oliver, Alfie, and Noah. All of the team members have no experience of competitive matches, so this is going to be a great football journey for the children.

The team played against a good, more experienced, Moorgreen team. The Avengers started well and closed down their opponents well, but Moorgreen sailed into an early lead by scoring a few early goals. Aiden made some key saves whilst Tristan and Daniel set up some key moves from back. Alicia put in a good shift on the right, making some good tackles. Oliver showed some excellent touches in the middle of midfield whilst Isaac’s constant running up and down the flank caused Moorgreen problems.

In the second half, the Avengers were much improved - Noah moved into defence and played some excellent through balls to Alfie, who was causing lots of problems for the Moorgreen defence. Alfie was on hand to pull back two quick fire goals to give the Avengers hope. Miller, who replaced Aiden in goal, made some crucial saves before Moorgreen scored a couple more.

The Avengers were not done and scored again from a free kick with Noah bending it into the top corner. Tristan was now battling hard and made some excellent dribbles through the middle to create chances for the dangerous Alfie who, on another day, might have gotten his hattrick. Right at the end, an excellent move consisting of Daniel and Oliver saw
Aiden slot home.

I’m really proud of the team for demonstrating great effort, desire, and commitment in their first game.

Heanor Town Thunder U8's vs. Melbourne Dynamo Hawks U8's

It was a fantastic display from the Thunder boys in our first under 8's game at Lees Brook Academy!

The Heanor Town Thunder was itching for match day following an excellent few weeks of training, focusing on improving our passing and technical game.
We expected a tough game against a well-respected opponent who took points off us last season.

It didn't take long for the Thunder to find the net. Oliver Burnell bringing the ball under control and striking hard and low from distance with a brilliant finish.

The Thunder were deadly, finding teammates in space with accurate passing and shooting whenever the opportunity arose.

Oliver Booker came alive from his new position on the right, designed to enable him to come inside on his wand of a left foot with quick fire and devastating results, an incredible hattrick in a game that he seemed to enjoy more than ever.

The Thunder defence held firm throughout. Disciplined, solid in the tackle and efficient with passing from the back. Louie, Jax, and Spence all striding out of defence and finding teammates in attacking positions.

The second half witnessed our best football to date with Harvey and Roux leading the line and joining in some wonderful passing patterns with the midfielders, whose movement constantly had Melbourne under pressure.

Harvey, Jax, Louie, Shay, and Roux all got on the scoresheet, and Spencer rattled the woodwork on several occasions to finish our first game of the season in style.

The Thunder boys had fun, worked hard, showed that their efforts in training are paying off, and come away from this game with smiles on their faces and full of confidence.

MOTM today was Oliver Booker. Inverting on his left foot, got him more involved in the game and showcased his natural footballing ability... but the award today was not for that or his goals, but for his excellent workrate tracking back to help in defence! Well in Oliver.

Heanor Town Vipers U8's vs. Sherwood Colliery Gold U8's

The first game of the season is complete!

The Heanor Town Vipers started with a high scoring draw. Going behind after just 10 seconds, to then bring it back straight from kick-off with a great goal from Harvey.

The boys battled it out and took the lead with some great goals from Harvey, Oliver, Theo, and Jaxx. The Vipers were on form!

With the last 10 seconds of the game left, we were ahead until they made it a draw, ending a spectacular match. The boys were unlucky not to get the win.

MOTM - Nozza. For a great performance and staying switched on all game. Well deserved, mate.

Heanor Town Titans U9's vs. Sandiacre Town U9's

It was great to be back in league action after a good summer of tournaments and football festivals.

The Titans were slow out of the blocks for the first half but were still showing composure and the never-give-in attitude that they always have.

After a regrouping at half time, the players took on board everything that was said and had a great second half performance. They stuck together and never stopped trying to play football the Titans way.

The only goal for the Titans today was Charlie Marriott, who was unlucky not to get a couple more.

Heanor Town Hotshots U10's vs. Mickleover Vikings FC U10's

Heanor Town Hotshots kicked off their league season with high hopes against a strong Mickleover Vikings side. With all players from last season re-signed and the exciting addition of Rupert Hubbard to the squad, the Hotshots were more than ready to begin their campaign. The only absentee was Kian Taylor, still on holiday, but the team looked focused as the referee blew the whistle to get the season underway.

The Hotshots started brightly, matching Mickleover in intensity from the off, though chances were hard to come by in the first half. Despite conceding an early goal, the Hotshots didn’t drop their heads and were soon rewarded for their persistence. Young Brayden Walsh found the back of the net, securing bragging rights as the first Hotshot to score this season, bringing the match level.

In midfield, Jenson Hadfield and new signing Rupert Hubbard linked up well, demonstrating a promising partnership, while the defence stood strong. Beecher and Rodgers showed excellent communication with goalkeeper Finley Kerry, who had a standout performance between the sticks, making several crucial saves to keep Heanor in the game.

Declan Walsh, though not on the scoresheet, was instrumental in defending from the front, closing down Mickleover’s play, and giving them little room to build attacks. Otis Lamey also put in a battling performance, showing strong passing and determination throughout. Jenson Hadfield nearly scored with a stunning free kick that crashed off the post, leaving the crowd gasping.

The second Hotshots goal came courtesy of Asher Walton, who put in an inspiring display. Not only was Walton exceptional on the ball, but his leadership qualities also shone through, motivating his teammates and driving the team forward—exactly what the Hotshots need this season.

Though the match didn’t end with the result the Hotshots wanted, the performance was something to be proud of. The team showed grit, skill, and a positive attitude, setting a solid benchmark for the rest of the season.

Brayden Walsh was deservedly named Man of the Match, putting in an all-around great shift for his side.

The Hotshots now turn their attention to next week’s fixture against Redwood Colts PSG, eager to build on this strong performance.

Heanor Town Hurricanes U10's vs. Toton Tornadoes White U10's

This morning saw the Hurricanes (proudly sponsored by Colson Transport) first game on their new home pitch, Lockton Avenue, and their first game playing in the YEL Sunday League, after 3 seasons playing in the Derby Junior League. After a brilliant summer, which saw the lads lift their first silverware back in June, they were all raring to go against a well matched Toton side.

Heanor started with Elijah Graham in goal, Max Appleby and Charlie Colson in defence, Ronan Charles, Jobie Edmonds-Jackson and Joey Mason in midfield, and Will Johnson up top. Tom James, Finley Shaw, and Ellis Bestwick starting on the side lines, and Leighton Carter unfortunately unwell on the day. Tom, Ronan, Joey, and Leighton are all new to the squad for this season, and it is great to have them all on board and have all settled in really well.

The game got off to a steady start, in tough conditions with heavy rain, Heanor gaining some early momentum, and it wasn’t long before Will broke clear and slotted home with a neat finish to put Heanor ahead.

Toton grew into the game though, and were able to mount a fair amount of pressure, and whilst some fairly solid defending from Max and Charlie, as well as Finley on from the bench, had kept them at bay for a while, they were able to get a couple of goals to go in ahead at the break, it could have been more but for some tidy stops from Elijah.

The second half saw Joey move into defence, doing well with some important interceptions, and Tom stepped into midfield, allowing a tireless Jobie to recharge, both lads getting stuck in and making some good short passes throughout. There was also a change in goalkeeper with Max moving in between the sticks and Elijah moving out onto the left wing. Ellis was introduced in the first half also, occupying the right wing.

The second half again was evenly matched, but the ascendancy was shifting towards Heanor. Although it has to be said, Max made a couple of cracking save to deny some great efforts from Toton. The Heanor defence on the whole was pretty tight, with Finley and Charlie seeing the game out.

Elijah continuously demonstrating his power carrying the ball up towards the opposition box, causing real issues for Toton, and there were some nice moves from Ronan out on the right, showing some excellent strength against a Toton player twice his size, it was only a matter of time before Heanor grabbed the equaliser. It soon came after a tussle in the Toton box, saw the ball fall once again to Will, who was smarting his new Phil Foden style haircut, to bury the ball into the back of the net for his brace. It could easily have been a hat-trick for Foden, after a sublime through ball from Ronan, but it wasn’t to be on this occasion.

Shortly after though, and with minutes left, another nice move from the lads, who at this stage were all eager to get the winner, saw the ball reach Ellis on the edge of the box, turning his man before cutting a superb finish across the keeper, the Heanor coaches stood right behind it could see it was destined for the bottom corner as soon as it left his foot, to put the Hurricanes ahead, and form an embrace only to be described as “scenes”.

Toton had a late push to draw level, but the Hurricanes showed what they were all about and kept it solid to see the game out.

It was a fantastic opening game at the new ground, where many more great memories will hopefully be made. It was a real spectacle for grassroots football.

Player of the match was awarded to the whole team, for a real team effort today, didn’t stop throughout and got their reward late on, well done to all the lads.

Stapleford Warriors U10's vs. Heanor Town Phoenix U10's

During the summer, after a successful season, The Phoenix changed allegiance and joined the mighty Heanor Town Football Club and twinned up with the Harriers as a Saturday and Sunday U10's side.

We began our season on the road away to a familiar foe, who we had got the better of the previous season.

The game began with the players, parents, and coaches having a minutes applause to appreciate a local lad to me called Riley Townsend, who tragically lost his life. RIP Riley.

The game started in frantic fashion with the drizzles giving the surface a little extra zip and allowing tackles to fly in. No love was lost between these sets of players.

The Phoenix started with their usual set of players, Leo Edge in goal, Alex Taylor and Raiden Fern (c) in defence, Chaz Bolton LM, kaiden Charlton RM, Haz Haslam in CM and debutant Finlay Kerry CF. Game changers were Riley Thacker, Stanley Taylor, and Frankie Michael. Alin Dragu, absent through sorting his tan out, was a big loss up front.

The competitive edge was at the forefront of a dogged battle as neither side would take a backwards step.

Finley Kerry, playing in an unusual role upfront, tested the keeper a couple of times before hitting the post!

At the back, Alex and Raiden were being tested by the Warriors' forward line, needing Leo Edge to help out a couple of times.

Slowly, the Phoenix began to take control of the match with the elegant midfield of Kaiden Charlton, Haz Haslam, and Chaz Bolton beginning to dictate proceedings.

The trio linked up to provide Finley Kerry a chance, but again, his great effort came back off of the post.

With the game being played at such a pace, the game changes were really needed, with both teams struggling to keep up with the pace of the game!

Stan Taylor came on upfront and was his usual busy physical self. Frank Michael added his quality and guile on the right, and Riley Thacker injected his constant running on the left.

Despite the changes, the first half ended 0-0.

The second half wasn’t going to get any less challenging as again, both sides competed at a level of competitiveness you see between two sides that respect and acknowledge the quality of each other.

The Phoenix began to assert themselves and began winning the territorial advantage as Frank Michael and Riley Thacker began to get control of the wings.

Alex Taylor and Stan Taylor taking control at the back after a switch of position, allowing Raiden Fern ( who had a great game defensively but also looked so assured on the ball) a rest.

The introduction of the set piece twins Chaz and Haz saw The Phoenix pin the home side back, but a succession of free kicks and corners went agonisingly wide, and the finish just couldn’t be added.

Despite Kaiden Charlton's relentless running and heroic defending at the back from Raiden Fern and Riley Thacker, the deadlock was finally broken.

A free kick was cruelly deflected by the unfortunate Leo Edge in the last minute, who had moments earlier saved Heanor's skin with a great save!

The game ended moments later, in a defeat for the Phoenix. Both teams showed huge respect for each other, and I’m sure they will meet again in the near future. Unfortunately, the Phoenix debut in Heanor Town colours ended in defeat, but I know these boys will be back next week.

The Phoenix showed the physical and determined character the coaches demand from them, which is all we ask. We looked a bit rusty on the ball, though, something to work on in training.

Big thank you to our main kit sponsor, Furniture Cloud. We really appreciate everyone’s support. We'd also like to thank Alina Dragu and Amanda Thacker for our sleeve sponsorship, based on remembering grandparents who have passed.

The Phoenix man of the match was Leo Edge, who made some great saves. Top keeper.

Heanor Town Sapphires U10's vs. Allenton United Tornadoes U10's

Saturday the 7th of September 2024. A date that will be remembered as the first ever football match for our brand-new U10's Heanor Town Sapphires team. A team of rookie newbies taking to the DGLL and the Racecourse Hub with buckets full of heart and a mix of nerves and excitement.

Today's opponents, Allenton United Tornadoes, are a well established team with a great group of girls who have played together for quite a while. It was always going to be a major test for the Sapphires against the Tornadoes, but a test we were well up for.

A Sapphire. The birthstone for September. A very fitting connection for the birth of our new team. With a full squad up for their first match, the team saw Lily Peacey start in goal for the first half. Macey Akers and Iris Haywood started as a defensive duo. Maddie Middleton started on the right wing, and Lilly Tipton started on the opposite wing. Today's Captain, Lottie Moore, set up in the centre of midfield just behind our striker, Sofia Morgan. Mila Hallam, Mia Peacey, and Mollie Hanson waited patiently on the side line, ready to make their impact.

Before the Sapphires could kick start the game, both sets of players and coaches joined together in a beautifully observed minutes silence in memory of Riley Townsend after his sad passing. #mentalhealthmatters #yourenotalone

The whistle blew, and the action started. The game plan to start with was simple. Get the ball forward. Unfortunately for the Sapphires, a mixture of first match nerves mixed with the Tornadoes' quick attack saw the Tornadoes take an early lead. This was quickly followed up by another Tornadoes push that saw them double their lead in the 7th minute. Safe to say we were up against it from the off, with many feeling that this game could get embarrassingly one-sided.

Lots of encouragement from the coaches had the Sapphires pick themselves up. Lily was showing some amazing goalkeeping, with some last ditch saves keeping her team in the match. Both Macey and Iris were super busy battling off the Tornadoes with great affect, helped by the tenacious work rate of Lottie in the middle of the pitch. Lilly was making her mark on the left with a show of quick feet pushing past the Tornadoes defenders. Maddie's determination was fully on show, getting more and more into the match by tracking back and winning possession, followed by powerful runs going forward. With the team starting to find their feet and pushing the ball forward, it was our striker Sophia who was taking the fight to them, troubling their defence and panicking the Tornadoes at every turn.

Both teams made substitutions, with the Sapphires bringing on Mila, Mia, and Mollie. Mila dropped into defence, Mia onto the left side, and Mollie into centre midfield.

The match had become back and forth, but it was the Tornadoes that were showing their experience and clinically breaking through our defence into shooting chances. Lily was becoming more and more confident between the sticks, throwing herself into save after save, including a reaching dive to stop the ball still on the goal line.

Mila was like an energiser bunny, zipping all over the defence and winning the ball back for the Sapphires. Mia continued the pressure and chased down possession, whilst Mollie was shaking off the nerves and finding her place in the match.

To say how damning it was looking early in the match, the Sapphires were giving it their all and went into the half-time break without conceding another. The break gave us a chance to refresh and switch a few players around in the hope of changing the result. Maddie stepped up and put the gloves on for a second half stint in goal, allowing Lily the opportunity to play outfield.

The game plan was still very simple. Get the ball forward... but with a more structured attack.

The change in play definitely made its impact on the 27th minute. Maddie cleared the ball up field, where Sofia won the battle to control the ball. She managed to slip the ball into space where an on-running Mollie Hanson took the ball in her stride before lobbing the ball over the Tornadoes keeper to score the first ever Sapphires goal! The supporters erupted in joyous appreciation, whilst Mollie ran off in celebration with her teammates before a manager-player high five. Unbelievably emotional moment.

The match continued with the Sapphires now feeling they belonged here. More attacks followed, with the Tornadoes coaches switching their players around to sure up their formation.

With both teams now ready after substitutions for the final quarter, the Tornadoes found their groove again, stringing together a spell of attacks. Maddie was more than up for it, making some crucial saves. The attacks were becoming relentless, with Lily, Macey, Iris, and Lottie all having spells at the back, defending our goal.

The Tornadoes did manage to get another goal, which managed to seal the result for Allenton, but the score line didn't have any meaning to the Sapphires result today! The final whistle saw a team of girls complete their first ever match together. Spirits were high as every player sportingly shook hands, with the Allenton coaches and players grouping together and giving their well wishes to the Sapphires for their dogged performance.

I'm not afraid to say I had a few tears in my eyes throughout the match. The togetherness to finish the first half strong, the fantastic goal and celebration, the rallying together of everyone at the end. I couldn't have been prouder.

Supporters Player of the Match - Lily Peacey. Lily stepped up to be the first player to play in goal, and by-god, did she ever step up! Even after she took the gloves off, she threw herself into everything for the team and was unanimously noticed by the supporters. Well done, Lily.

Coaches Player of the Match - Sofia Morgan. This award could very easily have gone to many of our girls today, but all three of us agreed that the industrious nature of Sofia's game really stood out as though she'd played 50 games already. Very accomplished, and we can't wait to see how far she can go. Well done, Sofia.

Chesapeake Eagles U11's vs. Heanor Town Comets U11's

Football is back! And so are the Comets!

With the league back in action, the Comets were raring to go and eager to get started. Before any football took place, both teams stood silent in a show of respect for the young life of Riley Townsend, who unfortunately lost his own battle in life. Our condolences go to all those affected. #mentalhealthmatters #yourenotalone

The summer had thrown a few spanners in the works for the Comets, with both John Rutherford and Sonny Jackson breaking bones. Luckily, both are on the mend, and we can't wait to get them back playing for us. Today, John joined the coaching staff on the side lines to help his team in any way he could.

Just before the kick-off, I reminded every Comet with us today that anything could happen, and as long as they put a team effort in for each other, we'd win no matter the score line.

The Comets set up with Isaac Swindell in goal. Harry Peacey, HHC, and Blaine Walker in defence. Theo Henshaw and Kian Tipton in midfield. George Martin on the left wing, Jacob Torr on the right wing, with todays captain Jack Hobster up front. EM, Owen Carter, and Casey Morton waited patiently to make their impact from the bench.

Straight from the off, the Comets looked hungry. Chasing down possession, unhappy being second best in any duel. It wasn't long before the pressure paid off, with the Comets attacking as a team. George took the ball in his path before launching it across the front of goal, where Jack was on hand to flick the ball into the back of the net. It was a fantastic start.

Despite the Eagles breaking through our midfield, Blaine, HHC, and Harry were up for the challenge and dealt with their attempts very professionally. Harry was linking up great with Jacob down the right-hand side, with Jacob excelling in the position, comfortably linking up and getting direct crosses into the box. It was just as fluent on the left-hand side, with Blaine feeding passes to George. Kian and Theo were pushing the Eagles resolve, with the latter being on hand to control a rebound that ricocheted into his path, before cheekily back heeling the ball past the keeper to give Theo his first goal of the season.

Changes were made with Owen coming on Jacob, Casey coming on for Kian and EM coming on George. Owen burst into the match with some fantastic link up play of his own, picking up fantastically where Jacob left off. EM was pushing himself to conquer the left-hand side, troubling the Eagles' right-back.

Casey came into the team at the start of the summer with it clear that it was going to take a lot of work by himself and us coaches for him to reach the level of the seasoned Comets. He's pushed himself with extra training and bags of commitment to the cause. It's such an inspirational sight to see how far he's come, looking a real threat in midfield, and if it wasn't for an excellent Eagles save, almost getting himself a first goal. Keep up the great work, Casey.

Despite our confident forward play, a break from the Eagles attack saw them grab a scrappy goal. It was an unfortunate moment, one that the team quickly shook off.

With only a minute left of the first half, the Comets pushed forward once again. Casey had a shot on target, which rebounded out into the path of Theo, rushing in to slot the ball into the back of the goal. It is a fantastic way to finish the first 30 minutes.

The second half started as the first finished, with the beast, Isaac in goal. Harry, HHC, and Blaine are at the back. Theo and Casey in the middle. Owen is on the right and EM on the left, with Jack still upfront. The one difference was that the Eagles were up for the battle.

The Eagles pushed forward, pushing their way through only to find Isaac in spectacular form. HHC was showing his strength and kicking range, whilst Blaine and Harry continued to regain possession and play the ball down the wings, particularly the left. EM was showing off his quick feet, dancing past their right back time after time, whilst coming agonisingly close with a shot that needed the Eagles keeper to keep it out. A similar attack saw the ball fall to Jack, who continued to impress, knocking the ball forward and slotting in his second of the match.

Jack came off with a niggling injury not long after his goal, being replaced by Jacob. Jacobs tricky feet threw a different dynamic into the match for the Eagles to contend with.

Owen continued to make the right winger role his own, bursting through and crossing the ball into the danger zone with ease. To say this is his first ever league appearance is bewildering. Very bright Comets future ahead for this lad.

A change saw Kian coming on for Casey, with Kian fitting into right back, and Harry moving into midfield. Kian constantly wants to play striker, winger, heck.. he'd go in goal if I allowed him to swing off the crossbar! But, we need him in that role, not because we don't want him scoring goals, but because we know he's got the determination to stop others scoring goals against us. And that he did with great effect.

George came on to play in a new centre midfield role, before testing the left back role, too. Again, all for the team. These mad coaches have a plan believe it or not.

The game was almost up. A string of Comets corners tested the Eagles resolve. Jack, Theo, Harry, Owen, Jacob, and EM all had further attempts that either went agonisingly wide, or met the great goalkeeping of the Eagles number 1.

The final whistle sounded, cheers of joy from the players and spectators surrounded the pitch before everyone respectfully shook hands, wishing the Chesapeake Eagles all the best for the future.

Supporters Player of the Match - Isaac Swindell - A unanimous vote for our number 1. Back to his best, commanding his goal and controlling the team from the back. Well done, Isaac.

Coaches Player of the Match - Jack Hobster - Our stand in coach for the day, John, made the appropriate choice of Jack getting the award. Fire in his belly for scoring goals again, Jack looks back to his very best. Well done, Jack.

Heanor Town Panthers U11's vs. Clifton All Whites Gold U11's

The Panthers played in their first ever league match today against a very well matched opposition in Clifton All Whites

They initially lined up as a 3-1-3-1 formation with Haiden between the posts, Billy, Maison and Harry H as the back 3, Harry P playing just in front as DM, Ellis, Arlo and George in Midfield and Harry B up front. Harrison, Alan, and Charlie started on the bench.

The Panthers started out pretty slow in all fairness and although George had a goal disallowed for offside on the very first attack, they found themselves behind early on after being caught out twice by the pace of the Clifton striker.

The first round of subs were made, and before we knew it, we were back level. Charlie scored the first after the keeper saved the initial shot, it fell to him again before slotting it into the open net. He then scored the second with a nice finish from the edge of the box that left the keeper no chance.

Cliftons third goal came close to half time. The opposition had a shot that hit the post, and then, unfortunately, the whole team was very slow to react, which allowed an easy tap in for Clifton.

Lots of encouraging signs in the first half, especially when taking into account that we are still very early on in the Panther's journey.

A good half-time team talk just highlighting the areas that we needed to improve on, plus what we were doing well seemed to do the trick.

Charlie scored his third to level the score with a nice lob over the keeper.

At this point, the result could have gone either way. Both teams weren't settling for the draw, and it was end to end. Our defenders were doing a fantastic job in containing the attacking threat of the opposition, and Haiden pulled out some fantastic saves. I'm still not sure how he did one of them!

Arlo and Charlie had further goals disallowed due to offside. A few minutes before full time, Arlo found himself free in the box, and the ball fell to him, and he smashed it home in a very similar position to the one that was ruled out minutes before. This time, he was definitely onside.

A fantastic result, and we are so proud of the boys for not giving up when it wasn't going their way initially.

Today's player of the match (sponsored by Benefit Martial Arts) was Harrison. He played in a few positions today, but he made some key tackles in defence that prevented the opposition from getting through to goal, whilst also starting the attacks from the back.

Thanks again, everyone! We go again on Tuesday!!!

Heanor Town Diamonds U13's vs. West Bridgford Pacifics U13's

The new season could not come soon enough for the Diamonds as we welcomed West Bridgford Pacific to Charles Hill for the opening fixture. After a disappointing defeat in pre-season, the Diamonds were fired up and ready to right those wrongs and get off to a good start.

It was a familiar feel to the squad from last season with just two new faces joining us in Chloe and Kadie.

The starting IX also had a familiar feel, with the exception of Amelia, who was between the sticks and Jodie now playing outfield on the left wing. Captain Tammy, Aaliya, and Kelsey made up the back three, Izzy, Kath, and Lois joined Jodie in midfield with Lucy leading the line up top.

The weather certainly welcomed the new season in style with a torrential downfall just after the first ball was kicked, but this did not hinder the Diamonds as they started on the front foot and looked to take the game to West Bridgford. The Diamonds had learnt from the pre-season defeat and kept their shape well with some neat and tidy football in the middle of the park.

The back three for the Diamonds looked impenetrable and saw off any advances from the West Bridgford attack, but when the ball did make its way through, Amelia was there to gather it up. Cara, Maisy, and Kadie were off the bench midway through the game to offer something different in midfield.

Although the Diamonds controlled the game well, it wasn’t until the 30th minute that Lucy whipped a powerful effort that beat the West Bridgford keeper but couldn’t beat the post as it whistled just wide.

Goalless at the break. The Diamonds were reminded of the first half instruction to shoot on sight as the conditions could cause problems for the away keeper. The second half line-up was the same is the first with the exception of Kath, who made way for Avah.

The half-time instructions were followed as Lucy, Kelsey, and Izzy hit some great efforts from just outside the Bridgford box, but all three sailed over the bar. It signalled the intent from the Diamonds as they pushed to break the deadlock.

Similar to the first half, the Diamonds controlled the possession for the most part, the defence looked solid and Amelia was a pair of safe hands in goal, but despite this, the Diamonds struggled to find a breakthrough in the final third. Some tactical changes similar to the first half ensured that the Diamonds remained in control.

The breakthrough came with around 15 minutes to play, Lucy collected the ball midway inside the West Bridgford half, took a touch to line herself up and unleashed a rocket that beat the keeper and almost ripped a hole in the net! Fantastic strike! Advantage Diamonds!

A couple of changes were made, and the Diamonds switched to a more defensive setup as some tired legs were leaving a few gaps in midfield that West Bridgford tried to exploit, and almost did on two occasions but were unlucky as their efforts were wide of Amelia’s goal. Aaliya, though, still had plenty in the tank as she pushed forward and looked to double the Diamonds lead, but her shot was just marginally over the bar. The Diamonds had to dig in for one final push to see the game out.

The final whistle blew, and the Diamonds had done enough to secure victory on the opening day of the season. The effort, determination, and teamwork really showed, and it was a well-deserved win.

Lucy was awarded the parents player of the match for her off the ball running and fantastic goal to seal the win.

Aaliya was awarded the managers player of the match for her brilliant defensive display and non-stop running box to box! She was fantastic.

With special thanks to Matthew Walker, who proudly sponsor the Diamonds.

Heanor Town Oaks U14's vs. WBYFC Alfa's U14's

Today, saw the Oaks in their first game this season, in which they played host to the travelling West Bridgford side.

The Oaks had nearly a full squad today with some new additions for the season ahead. The only player missing today was new, signing Alfie Carpenter due to illness. The Oaks starting line up today saw Finley Brooks in goal, with a defensive line up of Alfie Atkins, Joe Bekteshi, Joshua Benson and Theo Haslam, the midfield lined up with Ethan Fletcher and Logan Tipton as CDM's, Arlie Lancaster on the left, Alfie Sherwood as Captain on the right and Hayden Brennan in the attacking midfield role, Riley Boxall leading the line. Impact players today were Ethan Jones, Freddy Gadsby, Sonny Mustoe, and Drew Olphert

The Oaks got the game off at high pace, with the home side dominating the early stages pressing forward, moving the ball around beautifully and efficiently.

The early pressure from the home side saw the Oaks take the lead with Riley Boxall popping up in the 6 yard box slot the ball into the back of the net inside the 3rd minute.

The Oaks weren't in the mood to sit back. The West Bridgford side restarted the game, and the Oaks went straight on the press. Showcasing superb closing down skills and winning the ball high up the pitch. The Oaks were keeping the ball extremely well, giving WBYFC a hard time trying to win the ball.

The home side were using their passing and vision superbly. Using the channels well and attacking at pace. At the 5 minute mark, Joe played a superb ball through to Alfie S, who ran onto a ball showing his blistering pace, he got his head up and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The Oaks continued their pressure, but the visitors never gave up, battling and defending the best they could. Breaking at every chance. This gave the Oaks right back Josh Benson the perfect opportunity on the 15 minute mark to play a long ball over the top giving the Oaks pacey captain the opportunity to beat the defence and slot home his second and increase the Oaks lead.

A couple of minutes later a slight mistake by the visitors gave the Oaks another opportunity with the ball being driven into the box from the right and Arlie Lancaster sliding in to get his name on the score sheet and increase the Oaks lead.

The visitors never gave up. Still trying to attack the Oaks. The Oaks defenders kept to their task, keeping the line strong and the visitors at bay.

A huge header at the halfway line from Alfie Atkins going over the visiting defence, giving Sherwood the opportunity to pounce again and complete his hattrick just before the break.

The visitors came out after the break all guns blazing. This only created a few more opportunities on the quick counterattacks. And a chance for new signing Hayden Brennan to get himself deservedly on the score sheet.

The visitors didn't let their heads drop and came out attacking the Oaks. This time, managing to break through the solid line and get a very much deserved goal, 12 minutes into the 2nd half.

This only gave the visitors more confidence as they started to create a few more chances. Again, leaving spaces for the Oaks to break. A ball crossed in from the right, finding another new signing Joe Bekteshi who guided the ball into the back of the net.

Unfortunately for the visitors, a slight mistake from their keeper at a goal kick a few minutes later gave the speedy Oaks Captain an opportunity to pounce and slot home his fourth of the game.

The visitors kept going and never gave up, still creating chances and battling in midfield. The Oaks were too strong on the day. Just before the final whistle, Ethan Jones got himself on the score sheet, another player who gave superb effort and work rate.

An excellent and confident start to the Oaks season. Everyone gave 100% and worked superbly as a team. It was a pleasure seeing all the hard work the players have been putting in training come out on the pitch.

The parents' player award went to Arlie Lancaster, who was superb on the left wing. He worked tirelessly up and down, taking on the defence, making some excellent runs and crosses. Not only was he superb going forward, but he tracked back and put in some super tackles also. Well done, Arlie, keep it going.

The Managers player went to Alfie Sherwood, and he was a constant threat all game. His speed and crossing down the wing was excellent, as we'll as his positive leadership. 4 goals, and 4 assists to his name. Well done, Alfie, keep it going.

Great work Oaks, let's push forward and build on this.

A huge thank you to Sherwood Plumbing & Mechanical Services LTD, who for a second season has sponsored the team and supplied the team with kits and training tops. Thank you.

Mansfield Athletic U15's vs. Heanor Town Jaguars U15's

It’s the first league game for us as part of Heanor Town. We played against a very well established team in Mansfield Athletics. Before we kicked off, we had a minutes silence in memory of Riley Townsend.

The whistle went, and the Jaguars kicked off. Playing it back, the Jaguars started to play some nice passing football and getting it forward. Mansfield pushed on the lads really quick and started piling the pressure on the lads.

Mansfield then won a free kick just outside our 18-yard box. They struck the free kick up and over the wall and was going straight in the our bottom right hand corner when Michael dived across the goal and got a strong hand to the ball and put it out for a corner. Mansfield then whipped in a corner and caught us napping, putting them ahead.

The Jaguars then started to put themselves about and Jake picked up the ball in the middle of the park and played the ball through two defenders and Alfie ran through onto the ball and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and slid the ball in the back of the goal.

Mansfield then came back at us but weren’t really creating much, and then the Jaguars pushed on and kept the ball in their half and put Mansfield under pressure for some time. Mansfield then broke, and some good defending by Rylee and Fin stopped them. We then started to make a few substitutions, which the lads came into the field of play and slotted straight in.

Mansfield then took a quick throw and caught the Jaguars napping and went through and scored again. The Jaguars came right back at them and kept pushing for that second goal. The ball got played forward, and Jake chased it down and won us a free kick right on the left-hand edge of the 18-yard box. Cammy stepped up and curled it into the back far corner of the goal to pull the match level. Game on.

It was then a very even game from both teams with no real clear chances until Mansfield got into our box just before half time and won a very soft penalty and which they scored just before half time.

The second half and we made 3 changes at half time.

Mansfield came flying out the gate in the second half and quickly won themselves a free kick. They then hit the free kick into the box where the ball sort of bounced between a gaggle of players and into the back of our net.

The Jaguars never gave up and kept playing the football they had been playing all preseason. But we gave the ball away, and Dom tracked back really well and stopped the cross, conceding the corner. Again, we got caught napping on the corner, and Mansfield went and scored again.

Quickly after that they got into our box again and won a penalty and this time it was a clear penalty. They made it count and put it into the back of the net.

The Jaguars never gave up and started to play some really nice football with passing in triangles, starting with Cammy, Siya, and Ryan, then moving to the next triangle and getting the ball up the field. The ball fell to big Jack, who then got taken down in the box, but no penalty was given.

The Jaguars still didn’t give up and did at times play some really nice flowing football. For their first game as the newly formed Jaguars in a new league, they now know they can compete with them.

All the lads did an amazing job and never gave up. They kept playing the football they knew they could play so well done Jaguars. Bring on the rest of the season.

Player of the match - Jake.

Heanor Town Tornados U15's vs. Pelican Colts U15's

It was a strange summer for the Tornados as several players moved on, and new faces joined to mean it had a new team vibe going into the new season. The team were rocking their new purple kits, grateful for the sponsorship again of j&a engineering.

Lilli and Nelly were absent, but the rest of the squad were happy to be back playing after the close season break. Julia started in goal with Evie, Sienna, Captain Grace, and Mya-Grace at the back. Val, Elycia, Eva, and Layla were the midfield with Esme and Flick up top. Freya, Beth, and Ella all waiting patiently for their chance from the bench.

Pelican started well and pushed the Tornados back, and you could sense some nerves and rustiness creeping into the Tornados game. Pelican took advantage of that to score two quick goals.

This shook the Tornados into life, and after the goals, they started to push forward with Flick and Esme going close with chances. Ella and Beth came on for their debuts, and both excelled in the midfield whilst Elycia and Val linked up to great effect. The Tornados goal came from the left foot of Layla, who lobbed the keeper with a great finish. Game on!

At the half time the team were reminded by the coaches to play their football and not rush the play.

Going down the Aldercar slope meant the Tornados could again push forward, and Val hit the post with a great long-range shot whilst the Pelican keeper pulled off some good saves. The defence had to be alert though with Evie and Mya-Grace doing some great full back work whilst Sienna and Grace both put some great tackles in when needed, with Julia making a magnificent save to deny a certain goal.

Freya, Eva, and Layla never stopped running, and all left everything on the pitch, but sadly, the second goal never came, and whilst the match ended in defeat, there were so many positives to take onto next week.

Mya-Grace, Ella, Beth, and Elycia all made debuts, and all looked like they had been playing with the team for years, and that's the biggest compliment the coaches can give them.

As the matches come thick and fast, this team will only gain confidence and belief that next time, they will get the result their play today deserved.
