Here's this weeks Match Reports from our Junior Teams. Enjoy.

Spondon Rovers Spartans U7's vs. Heanor Town Wolfpack U7's

After a great start to the season last week, the Wolfpack was looking to carry on with that run, captained by Teddy Stanley.

The game kicked off, and Spondon was on the attack from the get-go. Caleb, under constant pressure, knew he had his work cut out for him but fought hard to keep Spondons' strike force at bay. That being said, we were struggling to keep up with their relentless efforts and conceded two early goals.

Blake and Tijan came on to try and bring a different approach to the game and instantly made an impact. We started moving the ball more freely around the pitch, leading to Ronan having a near miss from an awesome hit from outside the box. The Wolfpack followed this with more hard pressing, which led to Tijan breaking through into the box with some superb footwork and making a brilliant strike to get the Wolfpacks well earnt first goal.

Momentum gathered and the Wolfpack was dominating and playing some really good attacking football down the flanks of the pitch, leading to Ronan crossing the ball into the box for no one other than SUPER Teddy Stanley to make a emphatic right foot strike to bring the game level just before half time.

Spondon took the lead again straight from the kick off and seemed to have a bit more control, but for some spectacular goalkeeping by Reuben, playing his part as a real shot stopper to keep us in the game.

The Wolfpack held their heads up and kept on pushing for another goal. Mason Holland was running his socks off, causing havoc down the left-hand side of the field with his sheer strength and speed on the ball. Then, against the run of play, we conceded a penalty with Reu diving the right way but unfortunately couldn’t get enough to push the ball wide.

Now, with a two goal deficit, the Wolfpack battled on and never gave up with Ronan demonstrating his ball skills along with Blakes' fearless defending and will to get forward with the ball. We were unlucky not to find the back of the net on several occasions before the final whistle.

Unfortunately, it wasn't the result we wanted, but we have plenty of positives to take from today's match. We played some absolutely incredible football, showed an abundance of team spirit, and most of all, the boys had FUN‼️

Heanor Town Avengers U8's vs. Bingham Blues U8's

The Heanor Town Avengers faced Bingham Blues for their first ever home match, and spirits were high in their brand-new Heanor Town home kits. A big thank you to Colson's for sponsoring us this season.

The squad was missing goalkeeper/midfielder Aiden, who was ill during the night before the game.

The starting line-up consisted of Noah between the sticks, Daniel in defence, and a midfield trio of Alicia, Alfie, and Oliver. The Avengers were up against another good team in Bingham Blues but started brightly. The experience of the opponents came into play midway through the first quarter, who scored with 2 smart finishes. The Avengers were not giving up, and Oliver showed some excellent dribbling skills to create an opening that went just wide. Noah then played a lovely pass to Alfie, who neatly tucked it away.

In the next quarter, Miller played in goal, Noah stepped into defence to play his playmaker role, Tristan came onto the left, and Isaac played on the right. The Avengers played some lovely football in this quarter, and Alfie and Tristan both came close with some excellent moves. Unfortunately, Avengers got caught out twice towards the end of the quarter.

In the third quarter, the Avengers' heads seemed to drop a little, and Bingham scored a few goals to gain a big lead. Alfie came on to give the Avengers an extra player to try and keep the score line competitive. Oliver, in his new number 10 shirt, was proving why he had this number on and dribbled through the Bingham defence to score a deserved goal. Bingham added a couple more before the end of the quarter.

In the final quarter, the Avengers were the better side and created lots of chances. Noah, Alfie, and Tristan all went close before Tristan scored, demonstrating desire and commitment to close down the goalkeeper who launched the ball forward that struck Tristan to go into the net. The team went mad and was delighted to score the final goal of the game.

It was a tough first home game for the team, but they kept going, continuing to create some good chances to try and peg Bingham back. Another proud day as coach, as it is such a delight working with such a great bunch of children.

Which brings me to an Avengers quote... “If we’re going to win this fight, some of us might have to lose it.”(Hawkeye)

Parents player of the match: Miller for not giving up and making some excellent saves.
Coaches player of the match: Oliver for some excellent attacking contributions in the match.

Heanor Town Hearts U8's vs. Mickleover FC Napoli U8's

After an impressively successful preseason, where the Hearts picked up multiple pieces of silverware, the Derby Junior Football League recommenced at a new venue for the Hearts, Lees Brook Academy. The Hearts, stepping up into the echelons of the Derby U8's football pyramid once more, pitting themselves deservedly against the top sides from around the Derby area.

The Hearts had been chomping at the bit all preseason, aiming to showcase how much that gap had closed between ourselves and the top sides. Today's opponents, a well organised and efficient Mickleover side, who comfortably move the ball all over the pitch.

The match began with high intensity, both sides moving the ball quickly through the thirds, Heanor easily looked the more likely to break the deadlock. Some excellent work by Harvey and Louie on the wings, breaking the Mickleover back line, but unfortunately unable to find the target, albeit the Mickleover keeper pulling off some excellent saves to keep the scores level. The first 10 minutes, comfortably belonging to the Hearts in search of the opening goal, Harvey in particular looking dangerous on the wings. Oscar, working his socks off to keep the pressure high and get the Hearts further up the field.

However, the deadlock was destined to be broken, against the run of play, as the Mickleover striker picked up a loose ball, calmly slotting past the stranded Kit, who had taken the gloves for today's game. This turned the tide of the game, swinging it in Mickleovers favour, calling the very impressive Kit into pulling off some worldie saves, to keep his side in the contest. Mickleover, however, continued to apply the pressure against a resolute defence, Freddie in particular stepping in and providing some important interceptions, as he always does.

Charlie and Lucas were introduced, Charlie looking to drive at Mickleover during a period of high pressure, being the outlet to get the Hearts further up the field. Lucas continued the high press that Oscar had done so well beforehand, looking to get in behind and turning well to leave the Mickleover defender in knots.

The continued pressure eventually took its toll on the Hearts, which after some exceptional team defending, Mickleover increased their lead, quickly followed by a further double, to leave the Hearts shell-shocked, having controlled majority of the start of this game.

Halftime was called and afforded the Hearts the opportunity to regroup and try and gain a foothold in the match, which was in danger of running away and potentially becoming a cricket score, the Hearts encouraged to keep faith, have more confidence in their play and to take their chances when they came.

The second half began similar to the first, the Hearts applying pressure but failing to have the luck and clinicalness to drag themselves back into the game. Louie was asked to slot into defence, offering a calming influence, stepping in strongly to win the ball when needed and trying to play out from the back. Heanor deservedly got themselves on the scoresheet, as an indirect freekick was touched by the superb Harvey into the path of Charlie, who expertly dispatched into the bottom corner. No less than the Hearts deserved. The Hearts continued to search for further goals, as gaps in the Mickleover back line began to appear, giving the Hearts opportunity to push forward. The next goal, as the story of the first half, came against the run of play, as Mickleover dispatched an unstoppable free kick from distance, that looped over the very unlucky Kit in goal. The Hearts, at this point, could have let their heads drop, but as we saw throughout the entirety of last season, the Hearts battled on and maintained the pressure going forward. Charlie helped himself to his second of the game. After great pressing by Lucas, the ball dropped kindly to Charlie, who again, with pinpoint precision, found the bottom corner from the edge of the box. The Hearts were unlucky not to add to their tally further, with some great chances going begging.

Full time.

A good first game back in the summit of the DJFL, the Hearts can count themselves rather unlucky to have not got something from the game, Mickleover being impressively clinical when it mattered. Excellent work rate, battling and desire all over the park today, which will stand the boys in good stead throughout the course of the season. More impressively, the Hearts could have let their heads drop at half time, after starting so brightly and being on the receiving end of a 5 minute goal blitz, the response in the second half was phenomenal. To go on and win the second half is a testament to the character of these players.

MOM - Kit Cooper - exceptional in the sticks today, must have had some whiskers for breakfast as he turned into a cat for this fixture. Pulled off some incredible saves, distribution superb, and stopped the game from running completely away from the Hearts.

MOM - Oscar Bramhall - possibly Oscars strongest performance in a black and white shirt. Battled for everything, was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Was like a little rottweiler hunting down the ball, pressing high up the field and creating chances for the Hearts. Excellent work rate, but with it, showed excellent feet to navigate his way out of some tight spots on multiple occasions.

Superb today from the Hearts, back where we belong amongst the elite of the DJFL and not out of place at all. We need to pick up on concentration during the short periods against the run of play, where games can effectively be taken away from us. But overall, it is a very impressive first game of the season, looking forward to a positive and competitive run in division 1. It's great to be back out on the grass with the boys.

Heanor Town Thunder U8's vs. Ripley Town Reds U8's.

Ripley out thought and out fought by the incredible Thunder.

The Heanor v Ripley local derby has been a feisty affair since both teams started their footballing journey. Today was a wonderful example of what the beautiful game is about. It was passionate but fair, and both teams were respectful on the pitch.

The results have been evenly split over the last 12 months, but this victory highlights our Thunder Boys' incredible progress.

Ripley started extremely well, their talented number 10 taking up a free role, dropping deep to get the ball and driving at the heart of the Thunder defence. Ripley plundered two quick-fire goals through this method, and the Thunder boys HAD to adjust to avoid a cricket score defeat.

Adjust they did and soon had Ripley and their enigma of a playmaker, running backwards and facing their own goal. Ripley was still confident and a threat, calling for Roux to make several last ditch diving saves.

The Thunder moved away from our recent controlled build-up game and started to hit the ball quickly and directly - high and wide, pulling Ripley's defensive shape out of position. Shay, Harvey, Frankie, and Oliver Booker worked tirelessly to find space and press Ripley out of possession, and gaps started to appear. Spencer started stepping out of defence with the ball and expertly found our advanced players in their spaces.

The Thunder started to create chances.
We plucked a goal back just before half time in fortunate circumstances when Ripley found the net under pressure from a Harvey press.

The way the Thunder ended the first half forced Ripley into changes at the start of the 2nd. Their number 10 was now playing in defence in an indication of how the game had swung thanks to the Thunder.

It was important that the Thunder got off to a good start after the break, and Oliver Burnell was called into action to deny Ripley in net 1v1. Oliver Booker found space in the Ripley half and hit a trademark half volley from distance which looped over the Ripley keeper and nearly burst the seams of the net to draw us level.

The game was now one way with Frankie, Jax, and Harvey all going close. Louie replaced Spencer and seamlessly carried on where Spence left off, carrying the ball from the edge of his box and feeding Harvey in the channel. Harvey selflessly squared to Jax, who calmly steered the ball into the net to give us the lead.

The tide had turned, and our boys were really enjoying themselves. Harvey ended the game as a contest, burying his shot hard and low after working the defenders and closing Ripley down which forced a mistake.

The final whistle went, and the teams respectfully shook hands. Praise for every single Thunder today. The spread of goals so far this season is a great indication of how they have developed as individuals but also as a team.

MOTM today - Shay Bestwick - predominantly featured in a battle of the first half and was key to us getting back in the game due to his hard work and running power.

Heanor Town Harriers U10’s vs. Shirebrook Rangers Blue U10’s

Following on from the disappointment of last weeks opening game of the season being cancelled, the Harriers were eager to get their season underway.

Facing a strong Shirebrook team, the Harriers shuffled up the starting line up. Staring with Leo Edge in goal, a back two of Riley Thacker and Charnley Bolton. In midfield were Kaiden Charlton, Ashton Valis, and Louie West, with Stanley Taylor leading the line.

The match began, and the Harriers were straight out of the blocks playing with high intensity and a real desire. The Harriers dominated the early exchanges, and it wasn’t long before they took the lead. Some brilliant hold-up play from Stanley Taylor followed by a great through ball that found Louie West clean through on goal. Looking in a confident mood, Louie smashed the ball home in great fashion.

The Harriers continued to control the game, thwarting any attack from Shirebrook with some great defending from Riley Thacker and Charnley Bolton, who was playing in a unfamiliar role, but looked like he had played there all last season.

The Harriers had some real drive from midfield, in particular Kaiden Charlton, whose energetic runs caused constant problems. Backed up by a terrier like performance from Ashton Vallis in the middle of the park.

The Harriers dominance paid dividends again. After some fine attacking play, striker Alin Dragu opened his account with a great finish.

The Harriers continued to show their quality and great squad depth, with Harry Haslam and Alex Taylor now being introduced into the action. Alex Taylor, playing in a new central midfield role, looked commanding. Harry Haslam once again showed his quality on the ball and almost added to the goals with a great drop of the shoulder, then firing a shot at goal that was saved well by the keeper.

Shortly after half time, the Harriers did add to the goals. The impressive Louie West added his second goal of the game. The Harriers seemed to be cruising and should have added a few more goals.

With only 15 mins remaining, Shirebrook was handed a lifeline pulling a goal back. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Harriers, and it was now Shirebrook who looked the stronger team.

The Harriers' concentration and desire levels dropped and credit to Shirebrook. They pulled off one of the best comebacks I’ve ever witnessed in the grassroots games, scoring three further goals to snatch victory.

This was one of footballs harsh lessons for the Harriers players. A lesson that the game is never won until the end. Regardless of how the game ended, there were many positives for the Harriers to take from the game, with every player showcasing their talents for most of the game. The Harriers will bounce back and come again.

The Harriers would like to say a massive thank you to our main kit sponsor, TC Harrison JCB , and are delighted to welcome Laura Taylor as our sleeve sponsor. Huge thanks to you both for your support.

MOM Louie West. It was a delight to see Louie playing with confidence and a smile on his face. I challenged him to bring some of the confidence he had been showing in training into a game, a fine display with two great goals. Well done, Louie.

Heanor Town Hotshots U10's vs. Redwood Colts PSG U10's

The Heanor Hotshots were back in action today for their second league match of the season, determined to make a statement with a full-strength squad. And make a statement they did, producing a flurry of goals in a dominant display over Redwood Colts PSG.

Right from kick-off, the Hotshots’ intensity overwhelmed Redwood, as they pressed high, won the ball back with ease, and made smart decisions in possession. It wasn’t long before midfield maestro Jenson Hadfield opened the scoring, coolly slotting home after a well-timed run. Hadfield, as usual, ran his socks off, dictating the tempo in midfield.

The second goal followed quickly, with Asher Walton proving to be a constant threat up top. Although he struck the post and bar on several occasions, Walton managed to find the back of the net, putting Heanor in a commanding position. His work rate and leadership on the field, especially when Redwood fought back to level it, were invaluable as he rallied his teammates to stay focused.

Despite the setback, the Hotshots didn’t lose their composure. Brayden Walsh, already off to a strong start this season, netted his second goal of the campaign after a quick reaction inside the box. His strike restored Heanor’s advantage, and from then on, the Hotshots looked comfortable.

The defensive unit also played a crucial role in maintaining control. Otis Lamey, strong as an ox at the back, and Cameron Rogers, who drove the team forward with several crucial tackles, formed an impenetrable wall. Remy Beecher had his hands full dealing with Redwood’s powerful centre-forward, but his disciplined display kept the threat at bay. In goal, Finley Kerry pulled off some impressive saves to deny Redwood any hope of a comeback.

The game was finally put to bed with two quickfire goals from Declan Walsh, who capitalized on some sublime one-touch passing from his teammates. The Hotshots’ fluid link-up play was a joy to watch, with Walsh adding the finishing touches to an already commanding performance.

Kian Taylor was a beast all over the pitch, winning battles in midfield and driving forward with purpose, while Rupert Hubbard stood out with a man-of-the-match performance. His tireless work ethic, ball-winning ability, and pinpoint passing made him the heartbeat of the team, and he played a pivotal role in breaking down Redwood’s attacks.

As if the day couldn’t get any better, Jenson Hadfield capped off his outstanding performance with the Hotshots’ sixth goal, firing home from an awkward angle. The team celebrated by the corner flag with what seemed like a well-rehearsed celebration, ending the match on cloud nine.

It was a truly magnificent all-around team performance from the Heanor Town Hotshots, who have now set the bar high for the rest of the season. Up next is Spring Wood United Thunders, and the Hotshots will be looking to replicate today’s brilliance.

Man of the Match: Rupert Hubbard – Outstanding tackling and work rate, and more importantly, great vision in being able to pick out his teammates with some fantastic balls.

Long Eaton United Silver U10's vs. Heanor Town Hurricanes U10's

The first YEL game on their travels saw the Hurricanes visit the impressive Long Eaton United ground for what was set to be a close encounter.

Donning their new red away shirts (proudly sponsored by Colson Transport), the lads were ready to build on last weeks excellent start.

Starting line up: Leighton Carter in goal, Finley Shaw and Max Appleby in defence with a midfield three of Ronan Charles, Tom James and Elijah Graham and Ellis Bestwick up top. Will Johnson, Joey Mason, and Jobie Edmonds-Jackson starting on the side lines with Charlie Colson away on holiday.

Heanor got off to a promising start, with Ellis leading the line getting straight at the opposition, causing them trouble.

Out of nowhere, though, Long Eaton was soon two goals up and looked to potentially be too hot to handle, catching Heanor cold a couple of times at the back with two good finishes. But the Hurricanes took stock, kept going, and didn’t panic.

Playing the simple ball, and getting to the ball first, there were some nice moves between the lads, and it was a sublime ball from Ronan which set Elijah through on goal to take it round the keeper and slot into the net to pull one back.

Shortly after, Heanor kept with the pressure, and Max was able to convert a nice ball in the box from Elijah into the back of the net to draw things all square. Heanor could have then scored more before the break, with Will coming close, forcing a good save from the keeper.

The second half was a very close affair. Heanor had a few spells on top, but so did Long Eaton, and it was them that went back ahead converting a penalty kick. Shortly after, Heanor could have had a penalty of their own, but it wasn’t awarded. Again, they kept going.

The Hurricanes rode their luck a little, as Long Eaton squandered some good chances to put the game to bed, but Heanor kept on going and were hungry for the ball, and kept passing and playing for each other. This saw Will deliver a cross from the right, and it ended up in the back of the net via the opposition to draw all square.

In an almost identical situation, moments later, after Heanor had hit the bar twice from Ellis and Max, another fiery ball was sent across before Ellis got the touch which guided it into the back of the net to put Heanor ahead for the first time in the game, and it was to stay this way.

Was a team performance today, Leighton created loads of issues with his awesome kicking from goal, Finley and Max were solid at the back, both sending some delightful balls forward, Tom did really well in the middle of the park as well as at the back, playing some nice passes throughout. Joey, having felt unwell before the game, managed to put in a good shift and made some great passing contributions. Elijah, Will, and Ronan caused all sorts of issues for the opposition throughout.

An overall brilliant performance from all the lads. Well done Hurricanes, excellent start to the season. Keep it going.

Parent Player - Ellis Bestwick, endless running and tracking back, lovely distribution coming close with a few opportunities and getting the all important touch to seal the game. Well done, Ellis.

Coaches Player - Jobie Edmonds-Jackson, bossed it in the centre of midfield, was all over the pitch, countless tackles, effective quick passing, well done, Jobie.

Heanor Town Phoenix U10's vs. Codnor Sports Scorpions U10's

This match really didn’t disappoint as both teams entered the game, knowing this game was a local derby!

The Phoenix started the game with Leo Edge in goal, Riley Thacker and Haz Haslam at the back, Finners Kerry on the left, Alex Taylor cm, Kaiden Charlton rm, and Stan Taylor up front. To look round and see Alin Dragu and Chaz Bolton on the bench filled us with confidence.

To the game, the Phoenix started at a frenetic pace, not allowing the Scorpions out of their own half in the first 10 mins as the midfield 3 dominated the game. Chances came and went with Finners missing a good chance, and Alex Taylor just screwing a shot wide!

It wasn’t long before the opener came, though. Alex Taylor's lung bursting run provided an assist for Stan Taylor to poke home!! Great play from the Taylor twins!

Still, Heanor pressed for more and was really unlucky not to add to the lead.

Finally, Codnor began to get a foothold in the game and began to trouble the back line of Riley Thacker and Haz Haslam, but both held firm and repelled everything that was thrown at them.

With the Phoenix on the ropes, the game changes entered the scene, Alin Dragu and Chaz Bolton. They soon got into their stride as Chaz slid Alin Dragu in, only to fire just wide.

The second half began with the ebb and flow of the first half with Riley Thacker making a couple of last ditch tackles and ably assisted by the majestic Haz Haslam, who didn’t put a foot wrong all game whilst enabling us to play out from the back!

As the game progressed, we saw both teams show how much it meant to them, and the tackles flew in, neither side backing down! With Alex Taylor and Chaz Bolton mixing it up with physicality!

Unfortunately, this saw Riley Thacker give a shoulder barge on the attacker in the box. On another day, a different ref could have seen it differently?

On the side lines, we were still confident as Leo Edge is one of the best shot stoppers around! Unfortunately, Leo got a hand to it but couldn’t prevent the goal.

Heanor soon picked themselves up with Finley Kerry, Kaiden Charlton, and Alin Dragu going close.

It came down to the last kick of the game. Foul on Kaiden and Chaz Bolton stepped up, 25 yards out! You could sense the excitement in the fans! Great hit, but the keeper makes a great save, clawing the ball from the top corner!

Honours even. Going on the second half, a fair result! Bragging rights shared! Well done, Scorpions, a feisty but fair game! Love a local derby!

Man of the match Haz Haslam! Solid at the back and instrumental in the Pirlo play making role!

Big thank you to our kit sponsor furniture cloud and sleeve sponsor Amanda and Alina

Another big thank you to our match ball sponsor, Lilly Jones, at the Crown Inn.

AFC Mackworth Sapphires U10's vs. Heanor Town Sapphire U10's

After last weekends first ever match for the Heanor Town Sapphires, the whole football family was beaming with excitement. It may not have been the score line we wanted, but the overall result boosted the Sapphires into their second game, eager to improve on last week.

We made a big point of using last week's match as the key to this weeks training session, propelling us into today's match against AFC Mackworth Sapphires. If we didn't need any more encouragement, we were in a Sapphires derby!

The Heanor Town Sapphires set out with Lottie Moore in goal. Macey Akers and Iris Haywood paired in defence. A two player midfield comprising of Lily Peacey and Mollie Hanson. A forward duo of Sofia Morgan and todays captain, Maddie Middleton, led the line. With Lilly Tipton unfortunately unwell for today's fixture, it left Mila Hallam and Mia Peacey as our two impact substitutes.

Get the ball forward! That was the call. Get the ball forward and play with the ball in front of you. This became a literal action almost straight from kick-off, with the ball being cleared forward by captain Maddie into the overlapping run of Mollie, who slotted the ball into the back of the net with confidence. What a start, but that is exactly what it was... just the start!

The Sapphires were growing in confidence all over the pitch. Another forward attack in the 3rd minute saw the Sapphires get the first corner of the match. Captain Maddie stepped up and floated in a lovely cross, falling at the feet of Sofia to get herself on the scoresheet.

Mackworth got the ball in front of them and tried to make an attack of their own. Both Macey and Iris stood strong and dealt with the pressure very well. The ball was played back down the left-hand side, which saw Sofia win a throw-in. Lily grabbed the ball to launch a long throw over the defence for Sofia to run onto and slot it in the back of the net in the 5th minute. A great team goal.

The game started to settle a little with some back and forth attacks. Once again, the Sapphires' defence stayed resolute, keeping the ball moving away from their goal. This led to the Sapphires winning another corner. Without any promoting, Captain Maddie was on a high from her earlier corner and assist, and ran over to claim the corner as her own. She floated it into the danger zone to once again find her attacking partner, Sofia, who bagged her hattrick on the 9th minute.

The effort put in was excellent, so a freshen up was introduced with Mila coming on for Sofia, and Mia coming on for Iris. Part of this change saw Lily drop into defence and Mia into left midfield. Mollie also moved into attack with Maddie taking on the right midfield role.

The game settled down a little, with each team having attacks that weren't really testing the keepers. This was a great test for the Sapphires to manage the lead, with Mia chasing down the opposition and winning the ball back. Mila was getting a hold of the ball and putting together darting runs down the wing. Macey was as assured as ever, confidently clearing her lines.

As a whole, the team was really showing a fantastic spirit to work for each other. This was shown when Lily, now in defence, threw herself into a perfectly-timed challenge before sliding the ball into the path of Mollie. A strong run from our number 8 saw her smash the ball across the keeper and into the back of the net in style on the 23rd minute.

With the half-time break near, the Sapphires showed no slowing down at all with an eagerness to keep on the attack. After yet another lovely team move, up stepped Mollie to bag her own hattrick and round the half off in style.

It was an incredible first half with so much effort and determination on show by every single player. Lottie had energy to burn, so a switch saw her move into midfield, whilst Mia donned the gloves for the second half. More changes followed with both first half attackers, Sofia & Maddie, moving into defence. This allowed Lily and Macey to move up into attack. Sofia partnered Lottie in midfield.

With both Lily and Macey working fantastically in defence for the team, it was a reward of sorts that they now had an opportunity to test their attacking skills. After a Maddie clearance up field, Macey managed to play the ball into space for Lily to use her bursting pace to run on, knock it past a defender, where she then flicked it into the goal. This was quickly followed by some determined pressure by Lily onto the defence, winning the ball back in the area and grabbing her second goal on the 31st minute.

Both teams battled and were starting to cancel each other out in a 5 minute period. Lily challenged the Mackworth resolve and picked the ball up in her own half, dribbled past a defender, then a second, and a third, only to see her shot ricochet back off the post and cleared by Mackworth.

Iris came on into defence to sure everything up with a confident display, really claiming her place as our key defender. Lottie made a crucial tackle and dribbled the ball forward. She passed the ball into Mila, who was now alongside her in midfield, who kicked the ball into the path of Macey. It was Macey's time to shine, and there was nobody who could stop her as she powerfully ran through and scored her first goal in the 37th minute. Instead of a celebration, she quickly scanned around the supporters and looked towards her family with a beaming smile of joy and happiness across her face. This, this is what memories are made of.

Mila and Maddie both moved into attack, searching to add a little sweetener on an already delightful performance. After hitting the post and forcing the goalkeeper to make an impressive save, Mila managed to get herself a goal on the 45th minute, leading to yet another beaming smile from our number 2. Awesome!

One player who arguably deserved a goal today was our captain Maddie. She was instrumental in everything the Sapphires produced, leading the team confidently, as well as getting herself a couple of assists. Scoring wasn't to be for her today, but her impact on the match was enormous. Her goal will come in time.

Overall, it was a magnificent showing by the girls. In only their second match, they've proven they can turn it on, and once they get used to playing with each other, they'll get even better. It wasn't the busiest afternoon for our goalkeepers, but both Lottie and Mia held their own when needed, and we couldn't be prouder.

A special mention needs to be made for today's referee, Flo. She controlled the game perfectly, speaking to every player throughout and helping them through the match. Truly fantastic. We hope to see you at one of our matches in the future.

AFC Mackworth never gave up, and they should all hold their heads high for a great effort. Unfortunately for them, the Heanor Town Sapphires were in great form. We wish you all the best for your season ahead.

Supporters Player of the Match - Sofia Morgan. Determined as always. Clinical in front of goal as well as fitting into many different positions throughout to help her team. Well done, Sofia.
Coaches Player of the Match - Iris Haywood. Showing excellent progression from last weekend, Iris stepped up today and put on a masterclass in defending. First to every ball in her area, staying strong against her opponents, as well as pushing the team forward with pin-point passes. Well done, Iris.

The Heanor Town U10 Sapphires are proudly sponsored by 'Hodgkinsons - East Midlands Masonry Ltd'. Our girls looked amazing in their kits. Thank you.

Heanor Town Comets U11's vs. Codnor Sports Titans U11's

After last weeks whirlwind start to the 2024-25 season, the Comets were looking to continue their early success. Today's opponents were local team, Codnor Sports Titans. We've only ever met the once before, with both teams evenly matched and only separated by one goal. Today made for a great game for the supporters.

With John and Sonny still out injured, the Comets availability was exactly the same as last weekend. Today's starters were Isaac Swindell in goal, supported by Blaine Walker, Harry Peacey, and Kian Tipton in defence. Today's Captain, Casey Morton, and Theo Henshaw started in midfield with Jacob Torr on the right and EM on the left. Jack Hobster led the Comets attack. Impact substitutes waiting patiently were HHC, Owen Carter, and George Martin.

The game kicked off with both teams trying to find their rhythm and settle into the match. Some great work in the middle of the park from both Casey and Theo saw the Comets gain possession and start to spread the play out to the wingers. EM was starting to find his feet running down the left, dinking in and out, putting the Codnor defenders on the back foot. Similarly, Jacob was using his ball skills to open up pockets of play on the right.

For every Comets attack, Codnor had one of their own, especially their number 9, running down the right wing towards Blaine. Blaine did very well in clearing his lines with Harry there as backup when needed. Kian was handling the right of defence, clearing his lines, as well as launching his long throws forward. Harry was covering the centre of defence admirably, chucking himself at every ball Codnor played forward. Isaac kept himself active and ready, pulling off a calm but needed save. He then later rushed off his line and pounced on the ball bravely, even taking a slight knock in the process. Excellent from our number 1.

Jack's work up front is always tireless. His constant battling was turning the Codnor defenders inside-out, but the opportunity to shoot never came clear for him. Non the less, his teamwork was instrumental, and after a lovely bit of skill, the play was made out wide in the hope of looking for the return. Instead, Jack's presence occupied the defenders, with the ball instead finding its way through to Jacob, who slotted it into the back of the net for his first goal since joining the Comets.

Some changes saw HHC coming on for Casey, with Harry moving into midfield. Owen came on to try out his play as a striker, whilst George replaced EM on the left wing.

More solid play was needed, and with Harry and Theo now back together in midfield, the control was in the grasp of the Comets. Searching passes by both were sending George, Jacob, and Owen on runs towards goal. The more passes Harry and Theo found, the more impressive the back-tracking Codnor defence looked. Owen was so unlucky from a through ball from Harry, stopped at the very last second, stopping a shot on goal, from a questionable yet understandable call from the referee in the box. Experience in football says that it was a challenge that would be deemed as a foul outside the box, just not enough in the box. Rightly or wrongly, we fully understood.

The half-time whistle came with both teams putting in quite a shift. The talk for the Comets was simple. Keep up the work rate, but have a little more confidence on the ball.

The same team continued the second half as the first ended. A great clearance from HHC set up the counterattack with Jacob running into the box. The Codnor defender made an excellent challenge and cleared the ball but caught the on-rushing Jacob, too. A little rest was needed, so Jack came on to play on the right wing, replacing Jacob.

Within minutes of the change, it very much paid off. Theo won the ball back in midfield and played a little pass into the run of Harry. Harry found Jack on the right who took the ball in his path, cut back in on his left foot, and poked a ball towards Owen. Owen quickly took the ball under control before striking it into the back of the net. Once again, another new Comets signing with his first goal for the team. We love to see it!

With the match in their favour, the Comets made a few more changes. Casey came on for Kian with Harry dropping into defence, whilst Casey took up the centre midfield role. EM came on for Blaine at left defence, whilst Jacob came on in centre midfield to give Theo a rest.

One more change was sprung upon us in a major way. The powers that be at 'Comets Headquarters' saw it only fitting to switch up the management team for the rest of the match! Although I kicked and screamed, I couldn't help but drop my guard as the coach coming in was the one and only Sonny 'Spud' Jackson! Arm cast an' all! All jokes aside, it was amazing to have Spud along with us. A huge presence in our team that we've missed dearly. We're counting down the days until you're cleared to play again.

Codnor had made changes of their own, pushing forward the team in an attempt to get back into the game. A great ball forward put pressure down their right-hand side before a flash ball across fell to the feet of a Codnor attacker to pull a goal back. The pressure was on now with Codnor hungry to get back in the match. Another attack won Codnor a corner, which on the second phase saw the ball float across into the danger zone, only for our number 1, Isaac, to get a strong hand to it and punch it clear.

The Comets settled their nerves with a couple of changes. Blaine came on for George, allowing EM to push up to the left wing. Theo came on into midfield for Owen, with Jacob moving back onto the right wing and Jack moving into attack. Within minutes, the Comets were on the attack. A few attempts were blocked or saved, with one ball rolling back out into the path of EM, who launched a floating strike that lobbed the goalkeeper in a fantastic effort.

With the nerves now settled, the Comets started to look a force. Harry picked the ball up and travelled forward with it. He lofted it over the defence into the path of Jack. Jack battled to get a foot to the ball but instead was only able to put enough pressure on the defender for the ball to roll into the path of Theo on the edge of the box. He cutely moved the ball onto his right foot before placing the ball into the net.

Kian and George came on to help see out the game. One more attack from Codnor saw a bouncing ball trouble its way through our midfield before being cleared into the path of Jacob on the right. One last push forward came to nothing, but the Comets pressure following this attack was enough to see out the match.

A great match for the Comets. On another day, Codnor very easily could have flipped the result in their favour. A tough match for them, but one they should see positives from. Good luck for the rest of the season, Codnor.

Supporters Player of the Match - Theo Henshaw - Fantastic effort from centre midfield. Covered the hard yards chasing down the press, as well as spraying out some pin-point passes and scoring a well-deserved goal. Well done, Theo.

Coaches Player of the Match - Harry Peacey - When I asked Pete for his opinion, Harry was the first name mentioned, only backing my own thoughts. He worked his socks off for the team. Controlled the midfield with excellent passing, as well as dropping into defence and making crucial defensive contributions. Keep it up. Well done, Harry.

Little Eaton Diamonds Phantoms U11's vs. Heanor Town Hawks U11's

The Hawks get off to a flyer.

The Heanor Town Hawks were up against Little Eaton Diamonds and couldn’t wait to start their new campaign. Now U11's and playing 9 aside, it was time to show the DJFL what we could do.

It took a while for the team to settle into the game, and the Diamonds put the Hawks under pressure from the first whistle. They were asking all the questions, and Heanor had their backs to the wall, but try as they may, the Diamonds couldn’t make their dominance count.

They did get their reward with a clear penalty decision but again failed to take advantage. They put the spot kick wide, and the Hawks knew they had gotten away with one. This seemed to spur Heanor on, and they were starting to play their free-flowing football now.

The game was much more even now, and a nice team move was finished off in style by the impressive Rex Reed, who will struggle to top his first goal of his campaign. This filled the team with confidence, and the hawks were looking more like the team we all know.

Little Eaton hit back with a superb goal of their own to get themselves back level, but it wasn’t long before the Hawks carved open another chance which was expertly finished by one of the new boys Charlie Mills. Again, Little Eaton came back to make it all square, and it was now game on!

Heanor didn’t panic and and rather than sit back and settle for a draw, they were on the hunt for the all-important winner. The Hawks were dominating, and after some more good teamwork, Charlie popped up again for his second of the match.

The Hawks weren’t done yet, though, and another well taken goal from Charlie capped off both a brilliant individual performance and a brilliant team performance.

It was a match that had everything and was a joy to watch. From missed penalties to questionable offsides, every player put a shift in today and played their part in what was a brilliant win for the team. They walked off the pitch 10 feet tall looking like giants today.

I’ve already said how excited I am to have this group of players, and todays performance has shown me what this team is capable of. Let’s keep up the good work, and I’m sure the wins will continue.

Todays MOTM goes to Charlie Mills, who ran riot today and got his reward with a well taken hattrick. Keep up the good work, lad.

Thanks to our sponsor 'KPD Surfacing', it’s a pleasure to have you as part of this team, and we wear the kits with pride.

Well done again today, team, and up the Hawks.

Eastwood CFC Black U11's vs. Heanor Town Panthers U11's

Heanor Panthers took on Eastwood CFC in the final grading match before the leagues get underway next weekend.

We knew it would be a tough test against an established team and it really was a game of two halves.

The first half saw the Panthers dominate with the majority of possession and chances whilst also limiting Eastwood goal scoring opportunities. Ellis and Harrison in particular had good chances but unfortunately they were unable to find the back of the net.

In the second half, Eastwood upped their game and started to take control of the match. The Panthers were on the back foot for most of the second half and the pressure became too much when 2 mistakes allowed the opposition to take advantage and find the back of the net on both occasions.

The third followed after a free cross from the left side, found an unmarked player in the box who saw his header brilliantly saved by Haiden, but was then unchallenged in the rebound and scored from close range. The Panthers were simply too slow to react.

This being the third game in 7 days for the majority of the team, some even the 5th game in 7 days, so we will quickly move on and we look forward to the next time we get to play Eastwood on their lovely 4G pitch.

Our Player of the Match, sponsored by Benefit Martial Arts & Fitness, was Maison, who played defence in the first half and helped keeping a clean sheet during that half, and in the second half from Midfield worked and battled hard to feed the ball forward to initiate the attacks.

Sherwood Colliery U13's vs. Heanor Town Diamonds U13's

The Diamonds made the trip over to Mansfield for the second game of the season against Sherwood Colliery.

With Aaliya and Captain Tammy absent, Kelsey moved into central defence, flanked by Cara on the right and Maisy on the left, defending Amelia’s goal. Vice captain Izzy took the armband, joined by Jodie, Lois, and Kadie, who made up the midfield four with Lucy up front.

The Diamonds were in a confident mood as they looked to build on last weekends brilliant performance, and it certainly showed from the first kick of the ball as they controlled possession early on. Within the first couple of minutes, they were troubling the Sherwood defence as Izzy accelerated down the right side and played a beautiful ball into the box but just couldn’t find Lucy on the end of it. A positive start.

Just a couple of minutes later, the Diamonds were attacking again as Lois delivered a ball into the right channel, but it fell just short of Izzy and Sherwood were able to clear their lines. The attacking intent was clear to see, and it was almost rewarded as shortly after, Lucy took a neat touch of a loose ball, turned and hit her shot just wide of the Sherwood keepers goal.

Sherwood did start to get a handle on the game with some neat football in midfield and attack, but the Diamonds defence held strong to neutralise any attacks. A long ball up field led to a corner for the Diamonds, which Izzy whipped in with pace, and Lois got on the end of it to rifle it into the Sherwood net. The attacking pressure finally paying off.

It wasn’t long until the Diamonds doubled their lead, a mistimed tackle which Kadie took the full brunt of, gave the Diamonds a free kick just outside the Sherwood box which was curled beautifully into the top corner by Kelsey, giving the keeper no chance.

Just a couple of minutes later, Kath latched onto a loose ball, and in her own words, she ‘just hit it’ from no less than 18 yards. A truly fantastic strike that put the Diamonds in full control.

Some fresh legs were introduced to see the first half out as Avah and Chloe came on for Lois and Maisy, and see the half out they did with a fourth goal, the relentless attack from the Diamonds led to a corner that was whipped into the box by Izzy, and took an unlucky deflection off a Sherwood defender to up the score. The half-time break came with the Diamonds in full control.

Despite the half-time positive team talk, the Diamonds almost conceded within a minute of the restart, but a smart save from Amelia prevented a certain goal. An early second half wake-up call for the Diamonds. Lucy immediately responded as she collected a goal kick from Kelsey, turned and fired a wicked shot that rebounded off the Sherwood post.

From this point, the Diamonds followed the instruction to get their shots away with Jodie, Lucy, and Izzy all going close, and it wasn’t long until the lead was extended. Midway through the half, Kadie played a pinpoint through ball into Lucy’s feet, who then tiptoed around the Sherwood defence and poked the ball past the onrushing Sherwood keeper.

Later in the half, the Diamonds did begin to tire, which allowed Sherwood some time and space on the ball, which led to a number of efforts that were well saved by Amelia. A number of changes were made to tighten up the midfield and see the game out but just before the final whistle, Sherwood’s perseverance paid off as they caught the Diamonds napping and scored a late consolation from a well taken corner.

The final whistle blew, and the Diamonds were well deserving of the victory thanks to their teamwork and determination to get the result and send themselves to the top of the table!

Kelsey was awarded the parents player of the match for her defensive performance despite playing slightly out of position, and also for her fantastic free kick.

Kadie was awarded managers player of the match for her non-stop running, footwork, and determination to keep playing despite taking a knock in the first half.

With special thanks to Matthew Walker, who proudly sponsor the Diamonds.

Heanor Town Jaguars U15's vs. Hucknall & Linby U15's

Hucknall got us under way, and both teams from the off were pressing each other and playing some really nice football. The tackling was strong and fair, and the effort and football was amazing.

The game was end to end with no real clear-cut chance yet. But then, on the 27th minute, Hucknall broke through, and our defence gave a free kick away on the edge of Jaguars areas. This had me worrying as that’s how we conceded last week. Michael got his wall organised straight away, and the defence was organised and ready. Hucknall took the free kick, and the wall jumped. The ball hit the shoulder of the wall and looped over our defence, and the player ran in and tapped the ball in. The Jaguars were unlucky to concede.

The Jaguars came straight back at them with some amazing football and runs down both wings with Alfie and Fin up and down. Then Alfie got the ball on the half way line and their defender came straight at him and slide in a strong tackle getting the ball, but unfortunately, Alfie had to stay off the pitch with an ankle injury. We were then in control of the game with Kaden, Jack, and Jake in the middle of the park, just bossing it.

Jack picked the ball up in the middle of the park and just ran at them. I’m there thinking 'shoot', and he plays the ball out wide to Fin, who the puts the ball across. The keeper comes out and makes a little mess of it, prompting a scramble in the 6-yard area. Connor was there to poke the ball home to bring the teams level just on the stroke of half time.

The Jaguars got us back under way for the second half, and again, it was end to end football. Every time Cammy got the ball, he had the beating of their left back and was pulling all the skills and tricks out today. We just couldn’t get on the end of the balls.

Hucknall had a few chances, and so did the Jaguars. But Michael, Rylee, Brandon, Siya, and Dom kept it solid and tight at the back. We were unlucky not to nick it with an ice cream scoop shot and a free kick that just bounced back off the cross bar.

In the end, both teams ended with 10 men on the pitch from a little to much testosterone going through their bodies.

Brilliant effort and an amazing attitude by both teams to play end to end football

Player of the match - Jack

Our home kit sponsor came and watched today, and their player of the match was Cammy.

Gedling Southbank U15's vs. Heanor Town Tornados U15's

The Tornados travelled to Gedling missing Sienna and Freya but glad to have the returning Nelly and Lilli to add to the squad. The team was asked to carry on last week's form into today's game.

Julia started in goal with Evie, Grace, Mya-Grace, and Ella at the back. Flick, Elycia, Layla, and Captain Eva in the midfield with Esme and Val up top. Nelly, Lilli, and Beth waiting patiently for their turn to come on.

The start was fantastic for the Tornados when Val burst through to score after a minute, but the team didn't reset, and Gedling promptly equalised a minute later. Gedling then took the lead with a well taken goal, and the Tornados were up against it. Flick, Beth, and Layla were doing everything they could to push the team forward, and Elycia went close with a great effort.

Nelly, Lilli, and Beth came on, and Nelly then won and converted a penalty to bring the scores level, and it was game on. Val then scored the goal of the game with a tremendous lob from the edge of the box, and the Tornados ended the half a goal up. The defence of Evie, Grace, Mya-Grace, and Ella all were superb for the whole half.

Into the second half and Esme created her own chance and was so unlucky not to score when her play so far this season has been excellent. Val put one over from two yards, but the Tornados were creating chances, which was great to see.

Lilli and Eva ran their socks off all game to help both attack and defence, and the forward players all tried to link up to create chances. Elycia putting in some great balls for the ever running Val, Esme, and Nelly.

Eva then cleared a ball off the line to deny Gedling, but in the next attack, Flick slightly misjudged a tackle to concede the penalty. Julia stood tall, though, to deny the striker this time. Mya-Grace was everywhere putting it all in whilst Grace, Ella, and Evie all did so well playing the full game. Layla had to come off injured, and in the midst of a reshuffle, Gelding got a goal back.

Gedling then bundled another in which maybe should have been cleared to go ahead only for Nelly to a few minutes later power through the defence to score her second and level the scores. The Tornados were then guilty of not getting their shape back quickly enough, and Gedling got the winner at the death. A sucker punch that the Tornados will have to learn from going forward.

So whilst it was another loss, it was again far more positive than negative. The coaching team could not fault any of the players today and are sure it won't be long until results start to go the Tornados way again.

Coaches player - Mya-Grace. Again, she was amazing. She looks as though she has played with the team for years.

Players player - Lilli. It was a great first game of the season for Lilli taking her great form from last season into this.
