With the threat of this weekends games being called off after a week of frosty weather, the Comets were glad to get the news that the pitches had passed an early inspection, giving the Comets the platform to bounce back after last weeks defeat.

Not only were the playing team down a couple of members, the teams new manager, Tyler, was also feeling under the weather and having to miss todays match, leaving Craig and Pete to take watch over the proceedings.

Isaac Swindell started between the sticks, with Harry Peacey and John Rutherford making up the defence. Kian Tipton held the central midfield role with George Martin on the left, and todays captain, Olan Brown, on the right. Jack Hobster was back with the team after an illness to lead from the front. EM, Theo Henshaw, and Sonny Jackson were on the bench waiting to spring into action.

Straight from the off, we could all tell that the Comet's were eager to perform, chasing down everything and building their attacks forward and letting the Titans know that they were in for a tough morning.

With John fairly new to a defensive role and Harry filling in from his usual midfield role, it was always going to be a test from the off. Both were confident enough in their own abilities to marshall the defensive line for the team and cleared everything that managed to break through. Kian was chasing down everything in the middle of the pitch, giving the Titans very little time to build any sort of rhythm.

Harry picked out a pass down the left towards George, who managed to battle his way past his defender. He then looped in a magnificent ball, which got everyone gasping. Unfortunately for the Comets, it was arguably 'too good', with the ball at perfect height for a header, but too high to get a legal touch on the ball.

Jack and Olan were creating a lovely partnership with Jack winning the ball back in the middle and laying it into the path of Olan down the right. Olans power was causing the Titans issues, but the ball didn't want to fall kindly enough for Olan to connect the way he'd have liked.

EM came on in defence in place of Harry, Sonny on for George on the left, and Theo on and into the midfield role to replace Kian. Harry, George, and Kian had worked their socks off, so a rest for them and an injection of freshness looked to help the Comets.

More forward play saw some lovely interchange between Jack and Sonny, with the latter whipping in a half-volly cross, which looped towards the back post. The Titans defender managed to clear, but not for long as the ball fell to Theo to run onto and strike with his left foot, forcing a great diving save by their keeper.

Isaac was having a quiet first half but had to stay strong and focused when dealing with a corner, similar to one that caused him trouble the week before. He read it well this week and pounced upon the ball with great confidence. He jumped up, pumped out his chest, and brushed himself off with his beast like persona, letting everyone know who's in charge of his area. He launched a ball forward with great accuracy into the path of our running forwards. Again, the ball just didn't want to fall kindly, but the team were doing everything right.

After a break forward for the Titans, the ball was played into the danger zone where John tracked a runner and managed to win a battle of strength, doing so well he won himself a throw. Big game improvements by our number 5, who is looking more and more complete every match.

There was time for one more chance before the break. Jack managed to wriggle his way free to release a wicked shot that was destined for the top corner. That was until the Titans keeper got a strong hand to it to keep it out of his top right-hand corner. Another case of luck not falling kindly for the Comets, but also the brilliance of the shot stopper.

The half-time team talk was simple... keep it up. Keep the effort levels high and not give the Titans time to settle. Harry came back on to drop into defence alongside Kian, debuting in a defensive role in which has to be seen as a risky move by the coaches with the game still even. George came on for Olan, with Sonny switching to the right wing. Leaving another brave change to put EM upfront as a lone striker .

The Titans kicked off with EM chasing the ball down instantly. His pace and eagerness to get the ball shocked the defence who were panicking to get the ball away. With Sonny now playing off of the right, our tricky forward was eager to impress and chased down a defender in the box. The ball bounced around but eventually fell back into the path of our 'Spud', who struck the ball into the back of the net on 27 minutes. Sonny has one hell of a future ahead of him with his ability. A wonderful strike.

The goal seemed to liven the match up, with the Titans also making changes to strengthen their attacks. Both Harry and Kian had to be alert and did great to clear their lines. Theo also had to be extra active in his midfield role, finding himself in some tough physical battles.

Isacc had to be vigilant and covered his goal well by narrowing the angle for the Titans attackers' shot, which bobbled wide. But it also gave the Comets something to think about. The game wasn't anywhere near over yet, and the boys needed to stay focused.

EM continued to make a nuisance of himself up top, springing forward and getting a few shots away. It may have been a gamble to play our defender upfront, but it had worked well and given the Comets a different dynamic.

With the fitness levels dipping, it was time to switch it up and give ourselves a bit more fight in the middle of the park. John came on to play in a midfield duo alongside Theo. Jack and Olan came on to continue their partnership as a striking double act with the added responsibility of chasing back and battling for possession.

Kian released a ball down the right for Jack to run on to. He took the ball in his path before being clattered by the Titans defender and winning a freekick. He stepped up and fired to ball towards goal, which agonisingly just went wide.

With only a minute left, the Titans pushed for an equaliser. It was going to need a controlled defensive display to keep them out, and that is exactly what the Comets produced. The final whistle was blown, and a hard fought victory was earned.

Massive credit to Codnor. They kept us on our toes the whole match. The conditions were tough for both teams, with every player slipping around. Even the ref had a hard time trying not to slip over. We'll see you again, Codnor.

Supporters Player of the Match - Jack Hobster - He ran his socks off for the team today. Never gave the Titans a moments peace.

Managers Player of the Match - Kian Tipton - Lots of effort in the middle of the park in the first half, then transitioned into an unfamiliar defensive role to help his team in the second. Made some key interceptions when needed.

Managers Player of the Match - EM - It's fair to say he's not been his usual self on the pitch recently, but the talent speaks for itself. In a new striker role, he frightened the life out of the Titans' defence and was instrumental in changing the game in favour of the Comets.

Their were close shouts for others to get the awards this week. It was a perfect show of how well the boys battled.
